The Exchange System now lives together with Macro Targets for a single review workflow.
1-Day Auto Plan
Dropdowns change meal combinations. Exchange totals come from Exchange System. Main meals absorb starch/protein/fat. Snacks use fruit/dairy.
Fruit and dairy servings are assigned with the snack checkboxes and draw from the Exchange System totals. Choose fresh fruit or dried fruit, and milk or yogurt. Crackers replace 1 starch serving only. Oat biscuits and cereal bars replace 1 starch + 1 fat serving. Nuts count as 1 fat exchange and replace 1 tsp olive oil from the main meals — daily calorie total stays unchanged.

Getting Started
What happens after my first login?
You'll land on your Dashboard. It stays empty until you add a client — that's expected, not a bug. Start from My Clients in the sidebar to create your first client profile.
How do I create my first client?
Go to My Clients → New client, then fill in the Client Profile tab (age, sex, height, weight, goal and any conditions). Nutrese calculates calorie and macro targets automatically once the profile is complete.
How do I set up a nutrition plan?
Generate Recommended Plan (on the Client Profile page) sets the client's calorie, macro and exchange targets only — it does not create meal content by itself. Use Meal Plan Workspace for full manual control over your meal plan, including free-text diet entries and structured foods from the Nutrese Food Database, or 7-Day Plan to have Nutrese automatically generate a complete week around the client's exchange targets. The generated week includes Breakfast, Snack 1, Lunch, Snack 2 and Dinner as available plan slots, with Before Sleep added when appropriate. Nutrese populates the snack slots according to the client's needs. The generator aims to reach the client's calorie target as closely as realistically possible, using realistic portions rather than forcing the numbers to match exactly. You can freely edit any meal or snack afterward — your edits are protected and won't be overwritten by future Nutrese updates.

How do I add or edit a client?
Add clients from My Clients → New client. You can edit any saved client's profile, body composition, notes and documents at any time from their profile tabs.
What client information does Nutrese keep track of?
Each client's profile brings together demographics, goals, conditions, body composition history, notes and lab values in one place, instead of being split across separate files and spreadsheets.
Meal Plan Workspace
What is Meal Plan Workspace?
Workspace is where you build or refine a client's meal plan day by day, meal by meal. Each meal slot accepts either free-text (type or paste anything you like) or structured foods chosen from the Nutrese Food Database.
What's the difference between free text and structured foods?
Free text is exactly that — plain wording you write yourself, kept as-is. Nutrese does not scan or interpret free text for nutrition values. Structured foods, added from the Food Database, come with calculated nutrition and — where available — a household measure (like a slice or a cup), so their calories and macros are calculated from the nutrition data stored for that food and included in totals.
How do I add, remove or adjust foods in a meal?
Use Add Food on any meal slot to search the Food Database, choose a food and set its quantity. You can edit the quantity or remove a structured food at any time — its calculated nutrition updates automatically.
Do I need to save my changes in Workspace?
Yes. Nutrese keeps track of unsaved edits separately from what's already saved — see Save Changes below for how that works.
Nutrition Planning
How does the calorie calculation work?
Nutrese calculates a goal calorie target from the client's profile — using standard TDEE estimation plus their stated goal (maintenance, loss or gain). You can review and manually adjust this at any time on the Macro Targets page.
How do macro targets work?
Carbohydrate, protein and fat percentages are shown as an editable breakdown on the Macro Targets page, and always add up to the client's total goal calories.
What is the exchange system?
The exchange values you enter for a client — Fruit, Vegetables, Dairy, Starch, Protein and Fat — are the TOTAL number of exchanges intended for that day in each category, not additions on top of a recipe's starting point. Nutrese uses these totals directly when allocating and scaling the generated meals, so the final plan reflects your numbers as closely as realistically possible. If you set a category manually, Nutrese respects that value rather than silently recalculating it.
What are the Recipes for?
The Recipes library has starter recipes with full nutrition breakdowns, calculated from real ingredient data — not fixed numbers. You can also build and save your own recipes for reuse across clients.
Does Nutrese show micronutrients like iron, calcium or vitamin D?
Yes. The 7-Day Plan includes a Quantitative Micronutrient Analysis, calculated from the plan's actual final food quantities for each day and averaged across the week. Only nutrients with real, available data for the foods in the plan are included in each total — where data is genuinely missing for a food, that gap is shown rather than counted as zero, so a low total may reflect missing data rather than low intake.
Why does my plan show a Plan Quality warning?
Plan Quality highlights when a calorie or exchange target cannot be reached within Nutrese's realistic portion and exchange limits. This is not necessarily an error — it means the plan has reached a genuine constraint. Review the flagged day and adjust portions or meals manually if appropriate.
Are Snack 1, Snack 2 and Before Sleep required?
Snack 1 and Snack 2 are available generated snack slots on every 7-Day plan, and Nutrese populates them based on the client's needs. Before Sleep is added only when it's appropriate for the client. A slot can legitimately remain empty when it isn't needed — that's expected, not a bug.
What are Meal Plan Templates?
Meal Plan Templates apply a ready-made macro, exchange and meal pattern across a client's full week from the 7-Day Plan page. Choose from available templates such as Mediterranean Weight Loss, Diabetes Friendly, Vegan and others. Applying a template fills the week's plan using that template's meal pattern. Any meal you have genuinely edited yourself stays protected, even if you apply a different template later. Any exchange category you have set manually (Fruit, Vegetables, Dairy, Starch, Protein or Fat) is also preserved when you apply a different template — Nutrese does not silently replace your manual value with an automatic suggestion. Categories still left on automatic may be recalculated to match the newly applied template. Use Reapply Original Template to return an edited template-based plan to the version originally generated by that template. Use Remove Template to restore the plan that existed before the template was first applied. Nutrese asks for confirmation before restoring or replacing relevant plan content. Template selections and the resulting plan persist after saving, reloading, and signing out/in.
Importing Existing Diets
Can I bring in a diet a client already has?
Yes. From Meal Plan Workspace, use Paste / Import Diet to bring in existing diet content — either by pasting text directly, or uploading a file. Supported file formats are Excel (XLSX), Word (DOCX), PDF and plain text (TXT).
Will Nutrese get the import exactly right?
Import brings in diet text so you don't have to retype an existing plan — it is not guaranteed to be perfect for every document layout. Always preview the result before applying it, and adjust anything that needs correcting. Nutrese never invents nutrition values from imported or pasted text; imported content is kept as free text unless you separately add it as a structured food from the Food Database.
Food Database & Meal Building
How does food search work?
Any food-search field (in Workspace, Quick Nutrition Check or the Meal Builder) searches Nutrese's Food Database by name and common alternate names, in both English and Greek — so you can find a food regardless of which language the app is currently displaying. Choosing a result gives you its calculated nutrition, and a household measure (like a slice or cup) where one is defined for that food.
What is Quick Nutrition Check for?
Available from Workspace, Quick Nutrition Check lets you look up a food's calories and nutrition without changing anything in the client's plan. If you decide you want it in the plan, choose Add — Nutrese will ask which day and meal to place it in.
How do I build and save my own meal?
Open the Meal Builder from any meal slot, or start a new one from Saved Meals. Search for ingredients from the Food Database, add them, and adjust quantities freely — nutrition and exchanges recalculate automatically as you go. Save the meal when you're done. If you opened the builder from an already-occupied meal slot, saving applies your result directly to that slot.
How do Saved Meals work?
Saved Meals is your personal library of meals you've built, available to reuse in Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner across any client. From the library you can use, edit, duplicate or delete a saved meal. Deleting one only removes it from the library for future use — it does not change any plan that already uses it. Meals generated automatically as part of a 7-Day Plan are not added to this library; it's for the meals you build yourself.
Labs
Where do I enter a client's lab results?
Labs is its own tab on the client profile. You can type values in manually at any time.
Can Nutrese read lab results from an uploaded PDF?
For supported lab PDF layouts, yes — Nutrese can extract recognized results automatically. Extracted results are always shown to you for review before anything is applied; results it can't confidently recognize are listed separately rather than guessed. This is a data-entry convenience, not clinical interpretation or diagnosis — you remain responsible for reviewing every value.
What happens if an extracted result would overwrite an existing value?
Existing values are protected by default — a result that would overwrite one is unchecked for you automatically. If you choose to apply it anyway, Nutrese asks you to confirm before replacing the existing value, so nothing is overwritten by accident.

How do I record a follow-up visit?
Use the Follow-up tab on a client's profile to record and track visits over time, alongside their body composition history.
Where do I keep general notes about a client?
The Notes tab on a client's profile is the place for free-form notes you want to keep alongside their record.
Reports
How do I generate a client report?
From a client's plan, open Client Report (Print). Choose your report source — 7-Day Meal Plan or Meal Plan Workspace — and select which days to include. Set your own logo once under Account so it appears automatically on every report.
How do I share or export a report?
Reports are designed to print or export directly from the browser — no separate document has to be rebuilt by hand for each client.
Equivalents Guide
What is the Equivalents Guide?
The Equivalents Guide is a client-facing reference sheet showing example foods and portions within each exchange category, so clients can swap foods on their own within the amounts you've planned. You can include it as an extra page when generating a client report.
Account & Settings
Where do I manage my profile and report logo?
Your account details and report branding (logo) live under Account / Subscription in the sidebar.
How do I switch between light and dark mode?
Use the sun/moon icon in the top-right corner to switch at any time. Your choice is remembered for next time.
Who do I contact about billing or my subscription?
Manage your monthly or yearly subscription from Account / Subscription. For billing issues, use the billing portal link there; for anything else, use Report a problem below.
How do I switch the app between English and Greek?
Use the language button in the sidebar (EN/GR) to switch Nutrese between English and Greek. Meal plans and reports are translated accordingly.
Does Nutrese know if I've saved my latest changes?
Yes. Nutrese distinguishes what's already saved from edits still pending. Whenever you have unsaved changes, the Save action becomes available with a short confirmation summarizing what you're about to save. Make sure to save before leaving a client if you want your edits to persist.
